A very early, large keris. The hilt material has been forge welded to the
blade material, there is residue of a steel overlay that would have
originally formed a covering and provided cutting edges. These indicators
suggest a very early origin for this keris.
There is a suspension hole at the back of the head.
Some years ago, around 1990, I was visited by the curator of the
Asia-Pacific section of the Tropen Museum in Amsterdam. He offered to
purchase this keris and keris #10, however, at that time I had no wish to
