This is a very archaic style, the arms of the hilt figure are akimbo, as in
the Dongson dagger hilt figures, but the legs are not separated.

The hat style plus the waved blade, as well as the arm position would
seem to place this keris into the earliest penetration of Islam into Jawa,
so we are probably looking at 14th - 15th century.

I acquired this keris during the 1980's, and immediately after I purchased
it a representative of the Museum Sono Budaya in Jogjakarta attempted
to buy it from me for the museum. He had seen it with the m'ranggi I had
given it to, to have a wrongko made for it, and he met me at the m'ranggi's
house with his offer. Of course, there was no way I was going to sell it
after just getting hold of it.

This is classifiable as a full length keris which makes it an exceptionally
rare item.                                                                      12.9"
