conservatively estimate age at pre-1850, pedangs do not have the
indicators that permit classification as do keris, so any estimate of age is
based on experience, opinion and the appraisal of available indicators such
as material. The use of pamor tambal in a pedang of this type and age is
purely talismanic and is accepted as being the inclusion of all or part of a
family pusaka in a weapon designed specifically for combat.
