Keris 26 A Central Javanese keris that I believe was made in the area of
Solo (Surakarta) during the early 20th or late 19th century. It has pamor
sanak and is luk lima iras gonjo.
The wrongko is Central Java gayaman in kayu timoho, an old mamas pendok
incised with a lung-lungan motif is fitted.
The jejeran (hilt) is Surakarta yudowinatan, the mendak is parijoto style.
This keris was bought during the 1980's from a neighbour in the urban
kampung (perumnas) near Palur in Central Jawa where I lived periodically at
that time. The seller was not a wealthy man, it was one of two keris that he
owned, it had been in his family since new and he sold it to me because he
needed money to pay the "uang bangku" for his young son to enter school.
This is the reality of the type of keris that is often owned by ordinary
grass-roots people in Central Jawa:- it is a completely functional keris, but it
lacks all semblance of art, it is a poor man's weapon.
Blade length 10.5" (267mm) overall length 18.5" (470mm) $50
