Keris 24 An old Madura keris with a 5 luk (wave) blade and bearing pamor wos
wutah. This keris is almost verging on a keris patrem, a keris carried by noble
women, but is just a little too long for this, my opinion is that it is a boy's keris. It is
a solid, functional keris, in good stain and good condition, but it is no major work of
The wrongko is the Madura kacir style, a sort of truncated ladrangan form, and it
has the addition of a nice embellishment of some floral carving at the ri pandan, it
is old, in good polish and has no damage.
The jejeran (hilt) is an excellent interpretation of the Madura Bajing Loncat, or
"jumping squirrel" style, and an old untu walang mendak having delicate applied
beadwork within a clear tumpal motif is fitted.
This is nice example of a scarce style of simple keris with touches of the Madura
grass-roots folk style for which keris from the Sumenep area of Madura are known.
