Keris 17   A very scarce Keris Kebo Kanthong Luk Lima. Kebo Kanthong is usually
a straight (lurus) keris, and to encounter a genuine old Kebo Kanthong keris that
has  waves (luk) is a very rare thing indeed. I cannot give a supportable opinion of
classification (tangguh) for this keris, it displays Tuban characteristics, but both
the material and the fact that there is a slight ada-ada do not permit this
classification. It is definitely an old keris, and I lean towards a North Coast
classification, but I cannot fit it to the available designations. It is old and  my
estimate is 1700's, but something like this is so rare that it defies a supportable
classification.

The Jogjakarta gayaman wrongko is from kayu pelet and it appears to be original
to the blade, an old pendok of mamas embossed with a merak (peacock) motif is
fitted.

The good quality, old, Jogjakarta hilt (deder) is the Taman Ngabehan form, an old
silver mendak with double Tumpang motif known as Untu Walang is fitted.

This keris was acquired in Jogjakarta, Central Java during the 1980's. It is an
exceptionally scarce style of old keris in dress original to the blade.

Blade length  13.5" (342mm)     overall length  18.5" (470mm)
