A Jogjakarta Tunggak Semi hilt of the Taman Ngabehan style. It is in
fine condition with good original patina and with neatly executed
cecekan. Tunggak Semi means "a new branch on an old stump", and
it refers to the branch of the House of Mataram that was generated
with the partition of Java in 1755, the House of Mataram is the
stump, represented by the Kraton Surakarta, the formation of a new
Kraton in Jogjakarta that was instigated by the Dutch represents the
new branch. Both Jogjakarta & Surakarta use the planar style of hilt,
but the Jogjakarta style is the new style. Age is estimated as before
WWII.
