A Surakarta Planar Naga hilt. The planar style of hilt was first worn
by some young nobles at the court of Demak, it came to Central
Java when the Court of Pajang was founded by Hadiwijaya (Joko
Tingkir) in the late 16th century, and was adopted by the House of
Mataram, which was the successor to Pajang.
This hilt carries the Naga motif and two neatly executed cecekan. It
dates from the last quarter of the 20th century. With stand.
